===== From rich@brickbots.com: Overall this image is just very flat. The composition is very orderly, without much depth, and the lighting does not do enough to describe the forms of the tombstones. Vary the placement/angle/look of the tombstones. You can get a bit more extravigent without detracting from your primary focal point. It's already dead center, with a big light on it, so you can afford to spice up the other elements a bit. Play with the lighting to ger more contrast and form in the background tombstones. Right now the sides and fronts merge with no differentiation. Moving the light a bit one way or another will make one face or another brighter and help to describe the form of the tombstones. Add something in the background to help give the composition more depth. Try some dirt or moss on the tombstones, make them dirtier near the ground and lighter at the top. Maybe vary their colors/materials more. Play with some of these suggestions and you may find the piece taking on a life of its own. ===== From hildurka@simnet.is: This image is way too dark. The light beam is too small and doesn_t therefore light up the cross properly. Therefore the focus of the image becomes the grass at the bottom of the cross and not the cross itself which changes the message of divine blessing to a more earthbound one. I like the concept as described in the text very much, but the image doesn_t seem to have the focus to deliver it properly. Also the title "Grave Mistake" makes everything even more confusing. ===== From dungbeatle@mail.tds.net: This is a very nice image. I wish it were not quite so dark. The grass looks very good. I think it could be improved by using different headstones. ===== From simon_smith@zen.co.uk: When I started looking closely at the scene, the lack of inscriptions on the tombstones started to bother me. We must be looking at the cemetary from the back . . . ===== From glenn@mccarters.net: Good color and shadows. The light really highlights the central area. I usually ask that small images be rendered larger to show off the small = details, but in your case I think it would be better if you rendered the = image a little smaller to tighten it up. 3.2 million blades of grass is = fine, but leads to monotony. Even 5 or 10 hand-placed larger blades or = weeds would add to the image. ===== From file: I like the grass a lot, but it gets a little cartoony up close. light has a tendency to have this effect at night anyway; thicker fog would be nice. grave texture isn't quite right. solid concept.
