TITLE: An Empty Room (The Observer) NAME: Fatima Cvrckova COUNTRY: Czech Republic EMAIL: fatima@natur.cuni.cz TOPIC: Absence COPYRIGHT: I SUBMIT TO THE STANDARD RAYTRACING COMPETITION COPYRIGHT. JPGFILE: fc_room.jpg ZIPFILE: fc_room.zip RENDERER USED: Povray 3.5 TOOLS USED: nothing special - just pure PoVRay RENDER TIME: approx. 2 minutes, even at a larger resolution HARDWARE USED: Pentium-2.66 GHz IMAGE DESCRIPTION: At the first glance, this is just an empty room, with a deserted desk, a suspiciously clean pipe and ashtray, a few books ... you can spend ages making up a story and wondering whether everyone and everything is gone, or not arrived yet. At the second glance - where is the observer who should see him- or herself reflected in the window??? The file has been actually sitting on my drive for more than a year. I developed it while learning the basics of the PoV Ray scene language, and never really finished it (the study was originally meant to be quite cluttered). Also, one of the reasons why I dropped it was the conspicuous absence of the observer (this should have been a realistic image!). Then, suddenly, I browsed to the IRTC site after a while - and realized that I might have just hit the current topic! DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: Nothing really exciting technically - just an excercise in the PoVRAy scene language. It did, after all, begin as a training project.
